PROJECT DESCRIPTION
This project was located outside of UC Davis's Cruess Hall Makerspace, part of the Department of Design. Positioned at this strategic location, the project aimed to integrate the creative and educational ethos of the Makerspace with the broader campus community. Cruess Hall, a hub for innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, provided an ideal backdrop for the eco-friendly furniture installation, reinforcing its connection to design, sustainability, and communal engagement.
The placement outside the Makerspace was deliberate, as it served to highlight the intersection of design and environmental awareness. It created an inviting and interactive space where students, faculty, and visitors could experience firsthand the potential of design to address ecological challenges. The proximity to the Department of Design emphsized the project’s educational purpose, encouraging dialogue about sustainable design practices and inspiring new ideas among those entering and exiting the building.
By situating the interconnected benches in this dynamic and highly trafficked area, the project leveraged the creative energy of the Makerspace and the design community. It transformed an ordinary outdoor area into a living exhibit of innovation, sustainability, and community connection. This location not only enhanced the visibility of the project but also ensured its integration into the daily lives of those who passed by, making the benches both a practical resource and a catalyst for environmental and social awareness on the UC Davis campus.
